Wheelchair Accessible Home Design
A semi-detached house required a full renovation with a single storey extension to be used by a wheelchair user. A level threshold and ramp were added to the front and rear of the house to make it wheelchair accessible.
The new bedroom and wet room needed to provide a design solution to ensure that the medical equipment required did not stand out. The bespoke hospital bed had a natural timber headboard and footboard created to add some warmth to the design and to make the bed itself appear less clinical. The whole room was designed to incorporate the client’s love of ‘Doctor Who’. A ceiling track hoist was installed between the bedroom and the new bathroom for the client.
The remainder of the ground floor was then reconfigured to create an open plan kitchen, housing both dining and living space. An area was designed with a low level work surface to allow the wheelchair user to easily use the kitchen.
